Pink Tiger Day
Over the past 15 years, Pink Tiger Day has raised more than $600,000, proving just how powerful the Wesley Curtin University Football Club community can be when it comes together for a cause.
What started as an ambitious idea from organisers Mark and Sue 15 years ago has grown into one of the club's most cherished traditions, bringing together players, volunteers, local businesses, families and supporters, all united by one goal: helping ensure no one goes through cancer without the care of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.
Pink Tiger Day has become much more than a day of footy.
Three AFL matches were played in pink jerseys, while supporters bid in auctions, bought raffle tickets and got behind a full day of fundraising. The 15-year milestone also marked the first time the women's team took part in the official match.
Behind every Pink Tiger Day is a community that rolls up its sleeves. Jesse, Mark and Sue spend months bringing the day together. Ros has proudly catered since the very beginning. Volunteers from across the club's AFL teams sell raffle tickets, lend a hand and pitch in wherever they're needed. It's that shared effort that's kept this tradition going strong.
For Mark and Sue, the message to other clubs is simple.
"Go for it. Don't be shy," says Mark. "Set your sights high. People actually want to be generous on days like this and really support them."
