Pink Up South Burnett
How South Burnett turned pink into purpose
Every October, South Burnett gets behind the McGrath Foundation and turns their town pink for life-changing care for all cancers. Local people, businesses and community groups all play their part.
Last year, the region delivered its most successful Pink Up Your Town effort yet. The result was a record-breaking show of pink support to raise funds for McGrath Cancer Care Nurses.
A wide range of events took place across the region. New fundraisers brought fresh energy and helped push funds raised to a record result.
The final tally? The small buy mighty town raised over $22,000.
Pink Up South Burnett had strong support from the start. Locals Barry and Leanne Krosch kicked things off with a generous $5,000 donation.
That early support helped build momentum. It also set the tone for a month of fundraising, connection and community spirit.
One of the standout moments came at the Ringsfield House event. The event brought people together in a beautiful setting, with the historic venue lighting up in pink for the occasion.
A mosaic artwork donated by artist Karen Hibble-Shephard sold for $4,000. Then, in a show of care, the buyer donated the artwork to a cancer treatment centre.
That gift means the artwork can now inspire people going through cancer treatment. It’s a powerful example of how community fundraising helps care change lives.
After some friendly competition between community events, the South Burnett Quarter Horse Cutters fundraiser came in ahead – raising $13,000.
Pink Up Your Town is not only about raising money. It is also about people showing up for each other. It is about turning care into action in ways that feel local and meaningful.
South Burnett did exactly that. They created moments of generosity, hope and connection across the region and showed that there is no single way to take part. A town can pink it up in a way that reflects its own people and places.
Some communities may host a high tea. Others may run a sporting event, raffle, auction or local gathering.
What matters most is bringing people together behind the cause. That is how real momentum builds.
Every dollar raised through Pink Up Your Town helps fund McGrath Cancer Care Nurses. These nurses provide free care and support to people and families experiencing cancer. It’s care that changes lives.
South Burnett’s success is worth celebrating. Not only for what it raised, but for how it raised it.
South Burnett’s fundraising was full of heart, creativity and community pride. It showed the power of local action when people unite behind something bigger than themselves.
