Pink is the colour of care
When we see a ALL PINK event that means we need to be involved!
To kick off 2026, PingPong Newstead will be raising funds for the McGrath Foundation with
a limited-edition Pink Bao, available exclusively throughout the month of January.
The initiative will see $2 from every Pink Bao sold donated to the McGrath Foundation,
a charity that has supported Australian individuals and families through cancer care for
almost 20 years.
Specially created for the fundraiser, PingPong’s Pink Bao features coconut prawn, cabbage,
carrot pickle, kewpie mayo, kaffir lime, sweet chilli, coriander and fresh chilli, wrapped in
a bright pink bao bun created exclusively for the campaign. The Pink Bao will be available
during both lunch and dinner service throughout whole of January 2026.
PingPong is Newstead’s bold and playful Thai restaurant, with its main dining room fully
colour-drenched in pink. Pink is central to the venue’s identity, making the partnership with
the McGrath Foundation — a charity instantly recognisable for its use of pink — a natural
and meaningful fit.
The cause also holds deep personal significance for PingPong’s owners, with two of the
founding families having experienced first-hand the impact cancer can have on families.
Most recently, PingPong lost one of its founding business partners, Chidchaya ‘Poom’
Moore, to cancer earlier this year. Poom was PingPong’s original bao master, handcrafting
the venue’s bao buns from day one. Her baos were an instant hit and quickly became
PingPong’s most popular snack.
In addition, co-owner Yianni Passaris and his family are acutely aware of the emotional,
physical and financial strain a cancer diagnosis can place on loved ones, having lost Yianni’s
younger brother, Emmanuel, to cancer at just five years old.
“We know how important it is for families to feel supported during incredibly difficult
times,” says Yianni Passaris. “The McGrath Foundation does vital work across Australia,
and this is a small but meaningful way for us — and our community — to show support.”
In addition to purchasing the Pink Bao in venue, diners and supporters can also contribute
via PingPong’s dedicated fundraising page.
Thank you so much for your support and we look forward selling heaps of Bao's.
Love Team
