Shada's October Challenge

Pink is the colour of care

I am fundraising to ensure that no one goes through cancer without the care of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse. 

McGrath Cancer Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by cancer by providing invaluable clinical, psychosocial, and emotional support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.

Date: 01/10/2025 - 31/10/2025

I will be walking / running 300kms in total over the month of October. Aiming to do 10 kilometres per day.
I am doing this to show my love and support to all that are going through or have been through something like this.
I know my mum is strong enough to get through something like this and I know all the support she receives from the beautiful nurses make it so much easier to manage.

THANK YOU ALL

FINAL DAY OF MY OCTOBER CHALLENGE 

On Friday the 31st I did my last lot of kilometres to finish my October challenge to raise money for breast cancer awareness month. 

Starting this challenge I didn't know how much of a mental challenge it would be for me to complete this. 
Starting the challenge my Mum had just come out of hospital after having surgery to get her breast cancer lump and lymph nodes removed. Shortly after, she came down with fevers over 39 and a ball of fluid under her armpit called a seroma. 

After 2 hospital visits in 2 days she was admitted with a horrendous infection and a lot of fluid built up and ended up spending 13 days in hospital, having antibiotics through intravenous every 8 hours. 
Seeing her go through so much pain, discomfort and tirelessly fighting for some much needed love, care and rest. All my minor problems went away. Being there for her was all I needed to worry about in that time. It made me more determined to finish this challenge and become a stronger person for her. 
I had so much built up emotions over the period of this challenge that I broke down ( as we all do ) so in parts of the challenge I gave myself some days of less kilometres and gave myself 1 day of my challenge of rest while I attended a wellness event. 
Come to the end of it and I still managed to do 313kms in total. Beating my goal of 300kms. 

I ran 2 pb's. 1 x 15km & 1 x 21km

Before this challenge the furthest I had ever ran was 13kms!
If I can do it with the dedication, anyone can! 

It has taught me to prioritise your warm ups, stretching and recovery. It's the MOST important part. 

I want to thank every single person who has shown me so much love and support throughout the month. Not only just with this challenge but to the ones who are always checking in with my mental health. I will appreciate you all forever. 

It has been such a big month and for my beautiful mum, her journey is only just getting underway.
